Course Description

Sexual harassment has been at the forefront of the media and NYS law. As a result, we have seen an increase in internal and external employee complaints of harassment as employees have become armed with the resources, tools and knowledge to make such complaints. However, many of these complaints do not rise to the level of “unlawful harassment,” but rather stem from a common theme, a lack of respect in the workplace. This session will navigate participants through the complexities of effectively addressing employee complaints, conducting investigations and employing strategies to create an environment of workplace respect, minimizing an employer’s risk of internal or external complaints.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand employer requirements under NY state law to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • Learn best practices to effectively manage employee complaints and workplace investigations.
  • Identify common employee complaints that stem from a lack of workplace respect versus harassment and learn strategies for addressing such concerns.
  • Gain guidance and tools to create a climate of workplace respect.
