HR Works to offer October Supervisor Academy

For employers looking for practical ways to manage their workforce more effectively in a demanding economic environment, supervisor training can be a useful tool. This type of training gives managers and supervisors the skills to resolve HR issues while protecting themselves and their company from lawsuits, promoting effective employee relations, and supporting employment decisions.

This October, HR Works will be offering four sessions of Supervisor Academy, a unique training opportunity designed to provide new or experienced supervisors with the fundamentals of good supervision. HR Works’ trainers incorporate compliance with State and Federal Employment law and best practices into every module to ensure supervisors have the practical information and skills necessary to do their job.

Sessions will be held on Tuesdays as follows:

Write it Down - October 6

This course teaches supervisors that well-written timely documentation is critical for effective management of employees and defense of employment decisions. Participants will learn and practice the 5 W's of documentation content. The course also includes when to document, following a progressive discipline policy, getting past "writers' block," and when to get employee input and signatures.

New! Making Tough Conversations Easy(er) - October 13

This course is designed to help supervisors overcome the issues that make everyone reluctant to have difficult conversations with employees. It includes the importance of timely response to a problem, understanding conflict, methods for handling conflict, and dealing with negativity. Participants will practice having tough conversations utilizing their newfound skills.

Performance Management - October 20

In this course, supervisors learn that performance management should not be a one-time a year event, but a continuous process throughout the year. This interactive program includes the importance of feedback, the performance management cycle, the supervisor’s role as a coach and counselor, and an overview of relevant legal issues. Participants will learn how to set expectations, give feedback, and understand skills, knowledge, and talent.

New! Behavioral Interviewing - October 27

In this course, participants will learn the basics of behavioral interviewing including planning a logical, structured interview; develop their own behavioral interviewing questions to be used back at their office; and learn and practice interviewing techniques such as seeking contrary evidence and controlling the interview. Participants will also gain a basic understanding of the legal issues to keep in mind during the interviewing and selection process.

Supervisor Academy will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the dates listed above at HR Works' second-floor training facility, 246 WillowBrook Office Park, Fairport.

HR Works’ employees always show a high degree of professionalism.
