HR Works to offer Spring Supervisor School
In uncertain economic times, as organizations face declining staffing levels, the remaining employees need to be more productive than ever. If this sounds familiar, consider Supervisor School: Human Resource Fundamentals for Managers and Supervisors, a four-part series presented by HR Works, Inc. This unique training opportunity offers guidance for managers and supervisors in finding the best talent and ensuring that workers are fully engaged and productive. The series is also designed to boost participants’ understanding of federal and state employment laws.
Beginning April 28, sessions will be held on Tuesday mornings as follows:
Getting the right fit: Best practices for selection and hiring - April 28
Companies that hire the best talent improve their productivity, retention rates and bottom line. Participants in this program will learn how to define selection criteria; review applications and resumes; and develop effective behavior-based interview questions. The session also will address legal issues, interview steps, background checks and pre-employment testing.
Performance management: The continuous process - May 5
How can an organization achieve greater results through its people while spending less time on the employment evaluation process? In this interactive program, participants will fine-tune coaching and counseling skills that lead to optimum employee performance. The session also will cover: the importance of feedback; the performance management cycle; legal issues pertaining to performance management; setting expectations; understanding skills, knowledge and talent; mastering feedback skills and tools; and dealing with difficult employee issues.
Write it down! Documenting those employee discussions - May 12
Well-written documentation allows an organization to track improvement plans, responsibilities and results; provides support for employment decisions; and helps guard against claims of discrimination. Participants in this workshop will learn: when to document; how to track verbal or written warnings; how to overcome writer’s block; the five Ws of content; when to get employee input and signatures; and how to document performance reviews.
Termination: Facing the dreaded task - May 19
No job is tougher, even for seasoned supervisors. Feeling confident in the decision and communicating it effectively, while treating the employee with respect and dignity, is the key to a “successful” termination that also averts claims of discrimination. Participants in this session will learn how to: make a decision based on analysis of the employee record and company practice; address security issues; break the news; handle the employee’s as well as the supervisor’s emotions; determine a policy of escorts; and prepare for the unexpected.
Supervisor School will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on the dates listed above at HR Works' second-floor training facility, 246 WillowBrook Office Park, Fairport.
