HR Works resumes popular Supervisor School series to help organizations minimize legal liability
Recent judicial and agency activity make clear that training is an essential, not discretionary, HR
activity. According to the Legal Report of the Society for Human Resource
Management, courts increasingly are imposing upon employers the duty to take
positive steps to prevent and promptly correct behavior that violates
harassment and other employment laws.
The trend is undeniable: The number of job-based civil rights suits in U.S. courts more than
tripled during the 1990s. If history is a good indicator, the odds are about
50-50 that your company will face an employment-related lawsuit in the next
five years. What gives rise to most claims? The actions of supervisors who are
not trained in the requirements of federal and state laws. While employment
practices liability insurance offers some protection, employers are
well-advised to institute a regular program of management training.
To address
that need, HR Works, Inc., is presenting “Supervisor School: Human Resource
Fundamentals for Managers and Supervisors,” a four-part training series for
anyone who hires, evaluates or otherwise manages employees. The sessions are on
Tuesdays as follows:
¨
“Interviewing
Skills for Supervisors,” Oct. 8.
¨
“Communicating with Your Employees,” Oct. 15.
¨
“Document, Document, Document,” Oct. 22.
¨
“Termination: Facing the Dreaded Task,” Oct. 29.
All sessions will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at HR Works’ second-floor training facility, 345
Woodcliff Drive, Fairport. The cost is $75 per person per session. Participants
are encouraged to attend all four sessions for maximum benefit; however,
attendees may choose fewer sessions. Early signup is encouraged, as the
sessions are expected to sell out quickly.
