Start the New Year right with HR Works' Supervisor School
Learn best practices for supporting employment decisions and limiting liability
What better way to begin 2004 on solid footing than to commit your
organization to upgrading your employment practices?
Seasoned supervisors know that developing a successful employment track
record doesn’t just happen. It requires a series of well-grounded decisions in
choosing the right person for the job, managing and documenting that person’s
performance, ensuring the employee has the supervision and tools necessary to
excel, and making decisions regarding promotion, reassignment or perhaps
termination.
“Companies that keep their supervisors abreast of best practices – on everything from supervisory
techniques to knowledge of employment laws – improve their employee relations
and position themselves well to prevent or withstand legal challenges,” says
Kate Leunig, director of Training and Development at HR Works.
And that’s important, because some 50 percent of companies will face an employment-related
lawsuit in the next five years. What gives rise to most claims? The actions of
supervisors who are not trained in the requirements of federal and state laws.
“Supervisor School: Human Resource Fundamentals for Managers and Supervisors
is a five-part series presented by HR Works, Inc., for anyone who hires, evaluates or otherwise manages employees. Participants
will gain immediate knowledge of and practical applications for these essential
functions, and will improve their understanding of federal and state laws
governing employment.
The sessions are scheduled for Thursdays as follows:
- “Interviewing Skills for Supervisors,” Feb. 5.
- “Communicating with Your Employees,” Feb. 12.
- “Document, Document, Document,” Feb. 19.
- “Termination: Facing the Dreaded Task,” Feb. 26.
- “Preventing Harassment in the Workplace,” Mar. 4.
All sessions will be held from 8:30 to noon at HR Works’ second-floor training facility, 345
Woodcliff Drive, Fairport. The cost is $95 per person per session. Participants
are encouraged to attend all five sessions for maximum benefit; however,
attendees may choose fewer sessions. Early signup is encouraged, as the
sessions are expected to sell out quickly.
