HR Works program prepares employers to comply with new Fair Labor Standards Act regulation
The Department of Labor’s recent announcement of final changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act will
affect pay practices at millions of U.S. organizations beginning Aug.23.
These final rules represent the DOL’s efforts to clarify and update the half-century-old federal
regulations defining the FLSA’s "white collar" exemptions. The new
rules clarify the definitions of bona fide exempt employees under the
executive, administrative, professional, outside sales, and computer software
employee exemptions.
While advocates contend that clarified classifications will bring new overtime benefits to millions of
employees such as licensed practical nurses and engineering technicians,
opponents argue that millions of workers will be negatively impacted by
reclassification and ineligibility for overtime pay.
Regardless of one’s opinion of the legislation, employers must begin now to evaluate the impact on their current wage-and-hour
practices and prepare an implementation plan. To assist employers, HR Works,
Inc., is presenting: “Preparing for the New FLSA Regulations: Will Your
Company Be Ready ?” on Monday, May 17, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lodge at
Woodcliff in Perinton. The fee is $25 per person, including continental
breakfast.
HR Works’ experts will team with Michael Hausknecht, partner at Nixon Peabody LLP, to discuss:
- The impact of the new rules on current pay practices and business.
- An overview of how the new regulations differ from the existing rules.
- Actions that employers can take in order to comply with the changes.
Guests will receive a complimentary “mini audit” for wage and hour practices.
